Kayla Itsines BBG: Week 8 Update

Woohoo! Y’all I am 2/3rds of the way done with #BBG (Bikini Body Guide) and I’m feeling so accomplished!

If you’re unfamiliar with BBG or missed my last update, view here.

Now for those caught up, I last mentioned that I was not a fan of the workouts but I was seeing progress. And honestly not much has changed. The past few weeks, life has been crazy. I’ve been traveling and we’ve had friends come visit- meaning lots of deep dish and delicious food. I’ve loved these moments, but I haven’t been keeping up with my nutrition plan, as much.

That said, I’ve been consistent with BBG, but not to the full extent. Each week I’m supposed to do 4-5 days of low intensity cardio and 2-3 strength training sessions. The past few weeks I’ve been doing 4 cardio sessions and 2 strength training sessions. I’ve also felt more confident in modifying the workouts to fit what my body needs. I was not getting much out of the arm workouts, so I’ve subbed in my own weighted workout instead. I didn’t feel like doing the assigned ab workout, but I saw Kayla post one on Instagram so I did that instead. It’s given me the little freedom in my routine that I’ve been needing.

I think that’s the one thing I don’t love about BBG. I used to have this passion for fitness. I loved coming up with my own workouts and I loved creating a weekly schedule. I was so motivated when I had the freedom to do whatever workout I wanted, as long as I was working out. With BBG, that autonomy was taken away from me and it’s been hard to stay motivated. I dread the gym and I actively avoid certain days, like leg day, because I love pushing myself but not to the point of hating the workout.

With that said, I made a commitment and there’s no way I’m going to stop with 4 weeks left and erase the work I’ve put in for 8 weeks. I’m making progress, I feel strong, but I’ve lost that fire for fitness that made me start this crazy journey. I have a love-hate relationship with BBG and I’m really looking forward to all the workouts I can do in 4 weeks once I’ve finished the program.

In terms of progress, since my last check in I’ve lost 2 inches in my waist and 2 in my hips since last measured. Considering I haven’t been 100% with my nutrition, I count this as a win!
