Today I’m sharing our puppy supply checklist to help you get ready for your new family addition. I sourced this list through many Google searches. The PetSmart Puppy Packet is an excellent resource as well ($20) and comes packed with several coupons on all the essentials. It helped us save a ton!

The Basics:

• Leash/collar (we ended up getting two different leashes - a straight one and a retractable trainer leash)

• Harness (for puppies resistant to leash training this is a life-saver!)

• Dog tag (we have her name on one side; our last night, phone number and city on the back)

• Dog food (we asked our breeder what they were using and after researching the ingredients we decided to stick with them! It’s Fromm Foods Lamb & Lentil mix, if you’re interested!)

• Food/Water Bowls

• Treats (we bought three kinds and she only likes one of them! Try a few out to see what they latch onto)

• Poop bags

The Should-Haves:

• Kennel (Read Pupdate 2 for more of my feelings on kennels. In summary, I was against it but it’s been the best purchase we’ve made)

• Carrier with liner

• Puppy pee pads (just in case!)

• Water bottle for kennel/road trips

• Shampoo/soap

• Puppy wipes

• Grooming brush

• Toothbrush

• Toys (get a variety: rope, chewy, squeaky, tennis balls, etc. You don’t know which they’ll like more)

The Gotta-Gets:

• Shelf for puppy supplies

• Barriers/gates for your home

• Vet appointment

• Puppy insurance
