Career Champion: Alexa Morelli
Continuing with my favorite series: Career Champion! One thing I love about the blogging community is meeting incredible, strong, beautiful, courageous and wildly talented, smart, innovative, entrepreneurial boss babes, chief chicas, inspiring women. Every month, I'm going to spotlight one of these incredible role models and share a little bit about what makes them amazing.
I met up with Alexa Morelli about a year ago in a cute bakery in our neighborhood. She is just as real on Instagram as she is in real life. She’s beautiful, she’s kind and she’s killing the blogging game. She known for her authentic growth online and incredible blogging tips. Read on to get to know Alexa better.
1) You are a fashion and lifestyle blogger - how did you get into blogging and what made you decide to pursue your blog?
I got into blogging because after getting my Bachelors Degree in Journalism, I chose to pursue a different career path, but really missed writing. I thought blogging would be something I could do on the side in order to still pursue that passion & use what I learned in school. I also felt like I had a lot to share that would benefit others & that really pushed me to start blogging.
2) You also work full-time. How do you balance blogging with your career? What does a typical day look like for you?
My schedule is crazy haha but it's all about balance! My mental health is #1, so if I'm feeling overwhelmed with all that I have to do, I take a break from social media & blogging for a weekend or so. But on a regular basis, my typical day consists of me getting up as early as I can, getting ready for work, spending some time blogging until i have to leave, going to work & doing some blogging throughout the day (lunch, breaks, etc). Then after work I workout (again super important for my mental health), then do some more blogging in the evening. I shoot 95% of my content on the weekends & that helps a lot.
3) What has been your favorite blog post or collaboration?
Recently I posted an article on my blog called "What No One Tells You About Being a Blogger" and I couldn't believe the positive feedback I received! So many girls said they could relate to what I wrote & that means the world to me. Others said that it helped inspire them to start blogging! I'm always blown away by the impact a blog article of mine has. It feel amazing when I can truly connect with this community of women & that article was the perfect example.
4) What is the hardest challenge of blogging?
BALANCE! I already mentioned it above & just because I try to achieve balance, doesn't mean that I'm always successful. One week I'll be slacking at work, one week I'll be slacking at blogging, and one week I'll be on top of the work & killing it at everything! It's not always the same. Blogging also leaks into my personal life, so that's another thing I try to keep balanced. My friends, boyfriend, & family have to deal with me being on my phone way too much. They have to take photos of me, wait for me to finish something blogging related before I can go with them somewhere, the list goes on. They're very supportive, but I wish it was easier to keep the things separate.
5) What is your favorite think about blogging?
Hands down, the connections & friendships I've built through blogging. I always heard other bloggers talk about this, but I was never sure that it would happen to me. I think that before you get to know me, I can seem standoffish, so I was worried I wouldn't make real & genuine connections. Boy was I wrong! I've added so many people to my life in the past year through blogging & I couldn't be happier about it. They are my people now & I love them!
6) You're known on Instagram for your blogging tips, what's your biggest piece of advice for others looking to start a blog?
Narrowing it down to one piece of advice is hard for me haha I could go on & on! But I will say that no matter what - BE YOURSELF & DO YOUR OWN THING! You can use others for inspiration, but you should never try to do exactly what they're doing. Come up with your own ideas (I'm sure you're full of them), & do things your way, not anyone else's. You are the only YOU out there & that's what is going to set you apart always!
7) Go back to college graduation: what would you tell yourself?
Do what you want NOW! You don't need to be 25, living on your own, or whatever other excuses I gave myself. In fact I really wished I started blogging while I was in college. But seriously, you should never wait to be happily doing what you're passionate about until you reach a certain personal milestone. Just do it!
8) How do you find inspiration?
That's a good question! I get inspired with my own ideas when I do things like go on longs walks/runs, listen to music, or even just in the shower! My alone time is super important to be & it's when I feel the most inspired. I get inspired by other bloggers on Instagram & Pinterest! I'll look at something they did & come up with my own version of it, or I'll look at something they did & think "hmm I'm going to d the opposite of that." Just to set myself apart. My audience also inspires me constantly! Whenever they react positively to something, I just want to create more content like that to keep them happy.
9) Who is your role model?
My mom 1000%! She is & always has been a total badass. She was a police officer for 29 years and ran her own business (that she now continues to run) while being a cop. She is unbelievably strong, fearless, & independent, and has always been someone I wished to emulate.
