The Why & How of a Good Skincare Routine (with Fré Skincare)

Y’all skincare is one of the bigger trends of 2019! As we hit our 20s and later, we start to noice how important good skin is. I’ve always had a skincare routine. Growing up (and honestly still dealing) with breakouts, I try and keep my skin as healthy as possible to keep it looking its best. The thing is I don’t like to spend a ton of time on my skincare routine. I like just a few products, in and out, type of deal. When looking for a solid skincare routine, I came across Fré and honestly I’m so glad I did.

Fré specializes in products for active women. Its products are formulated to help you maintain the quality of your training, whilst combating exercise and sweat-induced skin damage: breakouts, dehydration and the signs of aging. Besides being 100% vegan and cruelty-free, Fré empowers women who are in charge of harvesting the Argan and it plants an Argan tree for every set sold, as a way to give back to Mother Nature. Last but not least, Fré products contain Argan oil. Originating from the Argania Spinosa tree, which can live for more than 250 years in a hard desert, Argan oil can prevent breakouts, hydrate skin, enhance firmness + more!

As you can see Fré is pretty amazing, but I know there are tons of questions about why a skincare routine is even necessary. I sat down with Nicole, Ambassador Program Manager at Fré, who chatted about the why and how of a good skincare routine.

1) Why is creating a good skin care routine important? What are the benefits?

Being consistent with skincare is the best way to protect against and repair skin damage. A great routine will help to minimize the signs of aging and prevent breakouts and dehydration. It takes 28 days for your skin cells to renew themselves, meaning it takes time and consistency to get great skin. If you are particularly active, it’s even more important to have a good routine because active sweaty skin needs to be taken care of to prevent breakouts, irritation and worse.

2) What constitutes a good skin care routine? What types of products do you need?

A great routine consists of a gentle hydrating and non-irritating cleanser. We recommend staying away from harsh synthetics and opting for natural products. An SPF moisturizer is essential to prevent sun damage and broad spectrum protection is a must. You also need a good serum for deep hydration.

3) Who needs a good skin care routine?

Everyone needs a good skincare routine. All skin goes through stresses during the day and needs to be lovingly cared for. Good skincare is especially important for people with active lifestyles and professional athletes since intense exercise, sun and sweat can exacerbate skin damage.

4) Which is better - skincare in the morning or night? If both, what are the differences and why do you need it twice a day?

Morning and night are both essential for skincare. The best routine addresses the different needs your skin experiences at different times. In the morning you need a moisturizing SPF for sun protection. You might also want a tinted moisturizer for a more put together look. There is evidence that skin regenerates faster at night and for this reason we recommend a moisturizing cleanser followed by a deeply nourishing night serum to remove the impurities of the day and allow your skin to regenerate overnight.

5) How does good skincare factor into a healthy lifestyle?

Good skincare isn’t just about the products you use. The phrase “you are what you eat,” has a lot of truth. Eating a healthy, nutritious and balanced diet will leave you with healthy looking glowing skin while eating junk food and drinking heavily can you leave you with dull and puffy skin. Like any organ in your body, your skin needs the right nourishment to thrive.

6) If you could only use one product which would be the best for your skincare?

An SPF cream would be our top recommendation. Protecting against sun damage and moisturizing properly is important for creating long-term healthy skin.

7) Most helpful skincare tip?

If you are active, sweat and dirt often clog your pores, leading to dull skin, breakouts, and irritation. The best way to avoid this is to cleanse in the morning and at night, and also after every workout.
